Cheese, Bedtime stories and funny Money!

After the draining week we had last week our weekend has been much lighter.  Honi went with her daddy and 2 big sisters Saturday morning and the break made a huge difference not just to me but to Harmonie too.  Harmonie and I did nothing but dance and laugh all Saturday morning.

I went out looking for a hand drill - I only want it for balsa wood - I couldn't find one.  I may just have to go online to find one.  I hate doing that, I much rather buy from the small shops in town.

Everything was calm enough for a science experiment in the afternoon.  Honi and I made Cheese and learnt all about curdling the milk.

Harmonie's bedtime story at the moment is Hair Maclary Shoo - I love Hair Maclary book, Lynley Dodd is a genius writer for little people and I love the way she's not scared of using big words for little people, I love the rhymes too.

Harmonie has memorised most of the words and loves joining in but she is starting to talk about the pictures.  Colours are something she's starting to grasp.  We have discovered her favourite colour is pink.  She always points out all the pink things telling us they're pink.  Tonight when we got to the page where there was a yellow car I asked her what colour it was and she said  I don't know.  I asked her if it was pink and she laughed and said 'no, not pink!' in the cutest little voice.  I told her it was yellow and she copied like they do and I said 'yellow like the...?' and she instantly said sun.  I love watching children learn, it's like the petals of a flower unfolding at times like this.  She started asking about all the colours in the pictures then.  She's so cute.  I love watching her fall asleep, it has to be one of my favourite things to do at the moment.

On Saturday evening we watched We bought a Zoo.  It is such a cool film and it's super cool that it involves a girl who is home-schooled and an amazing and emotional story that we all loved.

And today?  Today the girls let us sleep in, a little too much to be honest I think I'll need an early(ish) start to tomorrow but it's all good.  When we did finally get out of the door Harmonie decided she wanted to take her dolly so she did...

I bought a kit to make flowers out of foam and pipe cleaners, we haven't finished though so I will post some photos tomorrow no doubt.  Honi was so calm and sweet and lovely today, ok, for most of today but she didn't hurt anyone and that's what counts most at the moment.

Honi had a very funny moment today too, I have already shared it on Facebook but it is a moment I most probably will always remember.  I asked her if she could tidy the play room, what they call 'The Happy Learning Room' for £2, she turned round and said no way!  I'll do it for £100.  "£100!"  I repeated shocked.  "How about 200p?"  I asked.  She responded with: WOW! That's a lot of money!  Ok then.  She tired her hardest too.  I gave her two pound in the most amount of coins I could: a £1 coin, a 50 pence piece and ten 5p coins.  She was thrilled and sat on my bed for an hour playing with her money.  Counting how many coins she had 101 coins  - she said 101 pounds, wow, now I have enough to buy a house or a car!  I told her not quiet, that's not how money works.  We sat on my bed together and counted how much she had altogether including the money she still had in her purse and she has £3.51.  She's pleased with it but disappointed that she doesn't have enough to buy another Moshi Membership card.  She still has a few weeks left on the last one she got so the disappointment didn't last long.

I like to give her pocket money as she sees that money really does buy you things.  She also is happier to learn all the different coins and how much they are worth.  Obviously she is still learning but it makes it more fun knowing their is a reason to learn all these things.  It's like with reading, she's reading really well now and I am so pleased for her.  She's starting to want to read everything everywhere, from the signs in the toilets to signs in the street.  I love how reading and maths open up new worlds and gives them a different kind of independence.
